How to Sell Without Feeling Salesy

Hey there, it’s Arvin.

You ever walk into a store and instantly feel… hunted?

Like, you’re just there to browse.

But someone’s lurking. Watching. Hovering way too close.

And you know it’s coming—”Can I help you with something?”

(Translation: “Please buy something so I can hit my quota.”)

I get it. They’re doing their job.

But you can smell the desperation.

And honestly? Desperation is the worst cologne.

People Can Feel It

Same thing happens online.

When you’re trying too hard to sell something, people sense it.

Doesn’t matter how slick your sales page is or how perfect your offer sounds.

If your energy is screaming,

“Please buy this because I need you to,”

they’ll back away. Fast.

Here’s the wild part…

The less you need them to buy, the more they want to.

When you show up genuinely pumped about what you do—without chasing, without pressure—people lean in.

They get curious. They want to know more.

It’s like saying,

Hey, here’s this thing I made. I’m kinda obsessed with it. Thought you might vibe with it, too.”

No chasing.

No begging.

No weird vibes.

How to Attract Instead of Repel

👉 Build the connection first.

This is everything.

People can sniff out “you only want my money” energy from a mile away.

Talk to them.

Ask real questions.

Actually care about the answers.

Show up even when you’re not selling anything.

Be the person they’re glad to hear from—not the one they dodge.

👉 Sell the transformation, not the thing.

Nobody’s lying awake thinking, “I wish I had a 6-week coaching program.”

But they are thinking:

“I’m so burned out.”

“I wish I had more clients.”

“Man, I need to get my time back.”

You’re not selling yoga classes. You’re selling peace of mind after a crazy day.

You’re not selling a mattress. You’re selling a full night of glorious, uninterrupted sleep.

Sell the after. Paint the picture. That’s what they’re buying.

👉 Be hyped about what you offer.

If you’re not excited, why should they be?

And if you’re not excited? Cool. Make your thing better.

Tweak it. Test it. Get feedback. Turn it into something you can’t wait to share.

That energy? People want in.

👉 Be you. (Yes, really.)

People buy from people.

Not robots. Not faceless brands trying to sound “professional.”

If you’re quirky, be quirky.

If you’re funny, be funny.

If you love dad jokes and overpriced lattes, own it.

The second you sound like “Salesy McSalesface,” they’re out.

👉 Give a crap. Provide value. No strings attached.

Play the long game.

Be helpful. Answer questions.

Share stuff that makes their life easier (or more fun).

When you do have something to sell, it won’t feel forced.

It’ll feel natural.

“Of course I want to hear about this! You’ve already helped me so much.”

The Takeaway

Desperation repels. Connection attracts.

When you’re excited to share what you offer—without pressure—people lean in.

It’s not about pitching harder. It’s about building trust and being real.

Q&A Corner

Today’s question is from Farah:

“Is it allowed to create clickbaity headlines?”

Answer? Yup… but be cool about it.

Clickbait isn’t bad if you’re using it to grab attention. It makes people curious.

The problem? When the headline promises one thing and the content doesn’t deliver. That’s when people feel tricked—and stop trusting you.

So keep it fun, keep it juicy… just don’t lie.
