Wait… When Did That Brand Just Stop Existing?
Hey guys, it is Arvin!
The other day, I had dinner with my family.
We were all gathered at our house, passing dishes around the table and chatting about everything and nothing.
We talked about a lot of topics, bouncing from one memory to another.
Eventually, we landed on stories from my childhood: cartoons, snacks, old toys.
Then my mom said, “When you were a kid, you always loved this brand. You always begged me to buy it.”
I laughed. “Yeah, I remember that. Got me thinking. Does that brand still exist?”
“Dunno,” she replied. “I haven’t seen it in our local store anymore.”
That moment stuck with me.
I paused, furrowed my brow, rested my chin in my hand, and stared up at the ceiling.
It hit me like a flashback.
This brand used to be everywhere.
TV ads, radio jingles, billboards.
They literally printed their logo on anything and everything. I was obsessed.
I remember begging my parents to buy it just because everyone else had it.
Back then, they felt untouchable.
Like they had cracked some kind of code.
Massive popularity, cool vibe, and it just seemed like they would never fade.
But then I paused.
I realized… I haven’t seen that brand in years.
I don’t even remember when I stopped noticing it.
It just… disappeared from my life.
Not in a dramatic way. Not with a big announcement or a scandal.
Just slowly faded out of my day to-day until it was completely gone from my mind.
When Familiar Becomes Forgettable
And that got me thinking.
How many brands we grew up with were once giants … and now? Poof. Forgotten.
It’s wild how quickly that can happen.
It made me realize something about marketing that a lot of people overlook:
Familiarity fades. Attention shifts. Trust doesn’t last forever.
Even the biggest brands can’t afford to be quiet.
They keep marketing not because people don’t know them but because people forget.
The world is loud. Fast. Overloaded with content.
And if you’re not consistently showing up, someone else is.
That childhood brand?
I don’t think they stopped being good at what they did. They probably still exist.
But they stopped staying top of mind.
And when that happens, the slow fade begins.
Why Big Brands Keep Showing Up
As entrepreneurs we sometimes think that once we “make it,” we can coast.
That the brand will carry itself.
Just look at Google, Apple, and Microsoft. These companies have been giants for decades.
They’re household names. Yet they still invest heavily in marketing.
They still advertise, still run campaigns, still fight for your attention.
They know the game isn’t about being known. It’s about being remembered.
But if trillion-dollar brands with global reach still pour billions into staying visible…
Why would any of us think we’re the exception?
“Big brands keep advertising because they understand a vital principle: visibility leads to profitability.”
Even the biggest names know that staying visible means staying relevant.
In a crowded market, the brands that keep connecting with people are the ones that stay top of mind.
People won’t buy from brands they don’t recognize, and they definitely won’t buy from brands they never see.
Even for big brands, there’s a risk of losing traction if they go quiet.
The moment they stop showing up, competitors slide in to grab attention.
The Takeaway
If the biggest names in business are constantly marketing, then it’s a lesson for smaller brands too.
Staying visible isn’t just a strategy for the big players; it’s essential for everyone.
Ask yourself: Do you want your brand to be top of mind?
If the answer is yes, then consistent marketing and advertising aren’t optional.
They’re non-negotiable.
So, the next time you see an ad for a brand you already know, remember:
It’s not just about being seen.
It’s about staying chosen.
Because no matter how iconic you were yesterday, people forget fast.
So here’s my reminder to you (and me):
Show up. Stay visible. Keep telling your story.
Ever had a brand you loved just vanish from your radar like that?

Question from Ismail:
“how to build powerfull brand image for a new brand”
First thing: know your audience. Like, really know them.
Not just age and location but what they care about, what keeps them up at night.
I broke that down here.
And if you’re into AI like me, I shared some prompts in this one to help you figure it out faster.
Next? Start building your organic channel.
If you’re not sure what that is, I’ve got a quick guide here.
But here’s the gist:
Organic is where your brand takes shape.
It’s where you show up, repeat your values, and drop real value consistently.
That’s how people start seeing you and more importantly, trusting you.
