Should You Stick to One Niche or Be the Niche?

Hey there,

It is Arvin! Today, we will talk about niche.

What is a Niche?

A niche is a specific topic, industry, or group of people you focus on.

It’s what makes a brand unique and allows it to stand out in a crowded space.

Imagine walking into a bookstore—some stores sell only comic books, while others sell every type of book imaginable.

The comic book store has a clear niche—it focuses only on comics, attracting fans who love them.

On the other hand, a general bookstore carries books on all topics—fiction, self-help, history, science, and more.

It appeals to a broader audience but doesn’t specialize in any one category.

Instead of being known for a specific type of book, it relies on variety and customer interest in multiple areas.

Now, when building a brand, you have two choices:

You can stick to one niche, or you can become the niche.

Ever wondered which path is better for you?

It’s a big decision, and I had this exact conversation with a friend recently.

Here’s what we realized:

There are two main ways to build a brand:

1️⃣ Stick to One Niche

Some brands focus on one thing—finance, beauty, marketing, fitness, or something else. They become the go-to expert in that area.

✅ Pros:

  • Builds trust and authority in your field.
  • Your audience is highly engaged and interested in your content.
  • Selling is easier because your followers want exactly what you offer.
  • You can eventually delegate and let the brand run itself.

❌ Cons:

  • Switching topics can confuse your audience.
  • It might feel limiting if you want to explore other interests.
  • Growth depends on how popular your niche is.

🔥 How to Expand Without Losing Focus:

  • Create a separate brand for a different niche.
  • Once your brand is big enough, delegate and move on to new ventures.
  • Offer more than just digital products—think courses, coaching, or newsletters!

2️⃣ Be the Niche

This means you are the brand, and people follow you for your ideas, personality, and content—no matter the topic.

✅ Pros:

  • You’re not tied to a single subject—you can create anything.
  • Your audience follows you, not just your content.
  • You never run out of ideas.
  • Once you’re well-known, promoting anything becomes easier.

❌ Cons:

  • It takes longer to grow a broad audience.
  • Conversion rates may be lower since people follow you for different reasons.
  • Too many options can lead to decision fatigue.
  • Hard to delegate—your brand relies on you.

🔥 How to Make It Work:

  • Outsource small tasks (design, admin, etc.) so you can focus on creating.
  • Use affiliate marketing—bigger audiences can generate solid income.
  • Experiment with different topics at first, then double down on what resonates.

So, Which Path is Right for You?

If you prefer structure and predictability, go niche.

If you like flexibility and creative freedom, be the niche.

Or do both—

Start with one niche, then grow your personal brand alongside it.

So…

  • Do you want your niche to define your brand?
  • Or do you want your name to be the brand?

Both strategies work—just choose what fits your vision best!
